Hassan, a Pakistani boy born and raised in Hong Kong, has spent his life waiting for refugee status. After his father's death in a car crash, he falls into trouble with the refugee-run mafia. Yat, an old taxi driver and former refugee from mainland China, helps Hassan escape and promises to get him to Taiwan. Ironically, Yat's estranged son Hong—a policeman—is chasing them. As Hassan and Yat grow close, forming a father-son bond, Hassan learns a devastating truth: Yat was responsible for his father's death. Now, he must decide whether to continue the journey with the man he once trusted…

Anthony Wong won Best Actor at Golden Horse for his role as the taxi driver. Lau Kok-Rui won Best New Director and Best Original Script for this film.
